So, while I was working inside, I look outside and think to myself that the wind sure is the playing Hell with the drizzle outside. "Hell," I thought to myself, "if I didn't know any better, I would think it was sn...."
and with this sinking feeling in my gut, I realized that it was, in fact, snowing. It wasn't quite cold enough to stick on the pavement, but sure enough, I saw the beginning of flurries that would last most of the day.
Then I proceeded to freak out. Not freak out in the running around screaming, but I started thinking about all of the things that I would have to do to be ready for the snow. I spent a couple of hours taking care of those things. I had to get some sandbags into the truck bed in order to stabilize it for snowy and icy roads. Ideally, I would have used this as an excuse to buy 200 pounds of ammunition, but I simply cannot afford to buy that much ammo right now. I had to get the whole ice scraper thingy. For other southerners who do not know what that is, up here, it get cold enough that ice will form on your vehicle overnight. This, in turn, necessitates removing said ice off of your vehicle before you try to drive to work by looking through an ice cube. This device is basically an oversized plastic chisel about a foot long which you use to scrape off the ice.
I also got myself a few things that I had been missing in the cold, and that I wanted to get. So, I went to target and got a flannel bathrobe (because waking up in your boxers when it is freezing cold without a bathrobe is something Hellified). I also got a rug for the tile floor in the bathroom which has been freezing my feet as of late. A decent scarf, wool hat, and gloves rounded out the items I never needed in Texas.
I still have my eye on a particular jacket for up here that I can get for <$100, buit I think that the old ski coat I have left over from last year will probably suffice. For now, anyway.
Besides, I have spent enough money for one day.
As a side note, the baseball playoffs are getting interesting around here. I am not a baseball fan. It is just too slow-moving for me, and I refuse to become a fairweather fan, but I do support the local boys in their run.
In football, I root for the Redskins.
In hockey, I root for the Stars.
In baseball, I root for nobody in particular.
In basketball, I change the channel.
Anyway, things are kind of going along here.
