You know, I hate to say this, but things are looking pretty grim. Not in Iraq. Actually, all things considered, Iraq is not going so badly. Sure, there are a lot of people getting killed, but it's mostly Iraqis, and as bad as that sounds, it sure is a step up from when it was mostly US troops getting killed, while the Iraqis largely stood on the sidelines to see who would be the victor. At some point, I suspect, the Iraqis are going to have a strong man emerge who is not hostile to the US, and things will settle down. But it will take a while.
What is bleak is everything else. Israel just shot itself in the foot, and I don't care how much Bush tries to claim it as an Israeli victory, the only good that is likely to come out of it is that Olmert is going to be tossed aside, and someon like Netanyahu will come to the fore, and things may then get better. Btw, it is my firm opinion that Olmert ran this conflict the same way that Billy Clinton would have run a conflict. Come to think of it, it ias not that dissimilar to Somalia, but on a larger scale. An insufficient force was sent in to hostile territory, and things didn't go quite as planned. INstead of fighting their way to victory, the Commander in chief decided to just pull out, leaving things far worse than they were found, and after having lost so many valuable young men, to boot. Smooth move, ex-lax. Speaking of which, Clinton once again showed his true colors during all of this. I am a little suprised that nobody seems to remember his pledge to Israel.
We also just had a judge rule that NSA surveillance was illegal, just a week after this same surveillance helped crack a terror plot that would have killed thousands. We have CAIR and the ACLU doing their damned best to deplete every tool in our shed against terrorism. The worst part is that we are allowing it. Furthermore, we have no republicans on the horizon (maybe Gingrich, but that is a stretch) who are conservatives. We have nobody on the horizon who is going to start hanging those traitors in CAIR ond the ACLU. Nobody. All i see are a bunch of traitors on the left more willing to screw over the whole country, than to get out of the way, and let someone win this damned thing who isn't one of them. Never mind that the great Leftist presidents of our time are most remembered for such stunning successes as Somalia, Eagle one, the Iranian hostage rescue, etc., etc., etc. Unfortunately, I do not see any modern Ronald Reagan who gets it. I don't see anyone out there who is in a position to pick up the flag, with the will to carry it aloft and sally forth.
So, right now, I think that things are going to get a lot worse, especially on the domestic front, before they get any better.
It's going to be a long life.
